Dr Jin Sun has been a lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh since 2010. He conducted his post-doctoral research in Princeton University and earned his PhD degree in mechanical and chemical engineering from Iowa State University in the US. Working at the interfaces of computational science, applied mathematics, chemical, mechanical and civil engineering, he is establishing a research programme in particle technology and complex fluid and rheology areas to improve efficiency and reduce design cost for the manufacturing processes involving complex granular systems. His research promises to improve the predictive capability of modelling such systems, and to enable a paradigm shift from experiment-based to simulation-based confidence in the design and decision-making. He looks forward to making the Forum a platform for collectively developing the excellence and impact of manufacturing research in the UK.
