Dr Nik Watson

Nik is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. He has a MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hull (2005) and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Leeds (2010). He spent four years as a researcher in the Food Physics Research Group at the University of Leeds before joining the University of Nottingham in 2014.

Nik’s expertise is in the development of online and in process ultrasonic sensors. His research focus is to develop intelligent and robust online sensing technologies for the food and process sectors to enable greater automation and connectivity whilst improving process productivity and efficiency. Since joining the University of Nottingham he has been involved in projects funded by the EPSRC and Innovate UK developing ultrasonic sensors to optimise craft beer production and the cleaning of industrial food processing equipment.
